Can't create JSON column

I am using dbForge Studio for MySQL Standard Edition version 7.2.78 and MariaDB 10.1.23

The table builder will not let me create a JSON data type column, nor can I create a table with a JSON column using SQL.

Any help appreciated.

MariaDB 10.1.xx will be supported in the next product version that we are currently working on.
