Create Database Diagram

Post by FSL_AU » Sun 19 Jan 2014 05:58

I have created a test database in SQL Azure. There are no tables yet as I wish to design the database using SQL Complete. However I cannot see any items related to creating database diagrams in the SQL Complete Menus in either VS 2013 or SSMS 2012.

How do I create a database diagram for a new empty database in SQL Azure using SQL Complete?

SQL Complete is not intended to perform such task. For this, you should use another our product dbForge Fusion for SQL Server http://www.devart.com/dbforge/sql/fusion/download.html

Thanks. I downloaded and installed Fusion, connected to a SQL Azure database using VS Server Explorer, clicked Fusion/Database Diagram and waited and waited.

I closed VS, rebooted my machine and same again. When I click Fusion/Database Diagram VS goes into a holding pattern and has to be shut down and restarted.

I have VS2013 and Windows 8.1 i7 quad core 8GB 1TB, lots of spare resources. My internet connection is 17mbps and a good enough connection to Azure for database design using SSMS.

The test database has a single table with a single int column and no data.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

We were able to reproduce this issue and will fix it in the next build of the product. We will notify you once it's available for downloading.

Is that likely to be any time soon Alexa? Like everyone I have a project that I have to move along.

In fact we have fixed the issue already. However, the new build with the fix has not been released yet.

We are currently working on another our product and will get back to dbForge Fusion for SQL Server once it's done. Unfortunately, we still have no estimated time for the next product build.

Thanks for that Alexa. Please tell me what tools I need to create SQL Azure database diagrams. Should I be using Win 7 instead of Win 8, or VS2012 instead of VS2013, or should I be using something with SSMS?

Is it my dev environment or is it the approach I am taking?

The issue happened on Windows 8. There are no known issues with the Database Diagram feature on Windows 7 reported by our users.

A new build of dbForge Fusion for SQL Server should be released within one month.
