Instant Client with DBX--need parameter syntax

Can the dbx driver that came with BDS2006 work with the Oracle Instant Client? So far I've not been able to get it to work, but I suspect I do not know the correct syntax for the HOST and DATABASE parameters. If I need a later driver, please tell me. In any case, I still need the syntax for the connection's parameters.

Also, can the format for HOST and DATABASE be the same as the format that works on a machine with the full Oracle client?
