MydacDemo and Blob problem

running the MydacDemo.exe right out of the box seems to work except for the 'Pictures" section.
The supplied .bmp's load fine (Sandstone and world) and other BMP's from my system work as well but when I attempt to load a Vista Icon BMP I get:
'Access violation at address 00402A61 in module 'MydacDemo.exe' Write of address 01903000'
The Icon is a small file size (12KB) and is a 64 X 64 X 24 icon. All icons of 64 X 64 or 48 X 48 fail. All icons of 32 X 32 or smaller work fine.
What is it with this type of file?
