Error connecting to SQL Azure from IOS/Android
Error connecting to SQL Azure from IOS/Android
I am using v7.1.4 (licensed) of the SDAC components on Delphi XE8, and have developed a mobile FMX application that uses a direct connection to SQL Azure instance. This works when compiled and executed as Windows (32bit), but when deployed to both IOS & Android devices the following error is encountered:
TTDSMemoryStream.SetPosition 0, FLength -8 (D:\Projects\Delphi\Dac\SqlServer\Source\TdsNet.pas, line 185)
An earlier post in your forums (Feb 2015) referenced that support for SQL Azure will be forthcoming in a future version of SDAC. Is this nearing release? If so do you have an ETA.
In my opinion the SDAC technology is excellent and works quite well removing middle-tier layers & overhead in order to have a data aware mobile application, so to be able to support the mobile spectrum with SQL Azure seems essential.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Error connecting to SQL Azure from IOS/Android
Currently, we are working on implementation for SDAC Direct Mode for Azure SQL Database. We are going to include it in the next SDAC version. The new version will be released within the summer. You can also follow the SDAC news at http://www.devart.com/news .
Thank you for your feedback. We highly appreciate your opinion to our products. We are trying to improve our products and make them multi-functional.

Re: Error connecting to SQL Azure from IOS/Android
Thank you for the update azyk, l am looking forward to the next version at that rate.
While it is possible to utilize an Azure mobile service and extract data via Restful Web services (which I may have to use in the short term), because the apps I develop also need to connect to on-premise SQL servers it is preferable to have a uniform mode of data access across all possible endpoints. The SDAC provides this mechanism.

Re: Error connecting to SQL Azure from IOS/Android
I note v7.1.5 has been released, but is it 7.2.x (major release) we should be expecting this update in? Have tested on Android using v7.1.5 and receive a socket error. Unable to test on IOS at the moment.

Support for Direct Mode for Azure SQL Database wasn't added to the SDAC build 7.1.5. We can't yet name the SDAC version, which will include it. However, this will be mentioned in SDAC History at: https://www.devart.com/sdac/revision_history.html .

Understood. Thanks, will keep an eye on the revision notes.

Re: Error connecting to SQL Azure from IOS/Android
Hello I need to use the component to access the SQL Azure. I've got the same error. Someone has already solved this problem?

Re: Error connecting to SQL Azure from IOS/Android
You are getting this error, because support for Direct Mode for Azure SQL Database is yet under development. As soon as this feature is implemented and included into the SDAC release, we will mention it in the History: https://www.devart.com/sdac/revision_history.html.

Is this functionality still on the development roadmap? If so is there an eta for it?

We are going to release a new version of SDAC with support for Azure SQL Database for MacOS, iOS, Android within a month.

Just a friendly nudge - is there an impending ETA ?
Really keen for this.
thanks.

Re: Error connecting to SQL Azure from IOS/Android
We have already implemented support for Azure SQL Database for MacOS, iOS, Android. And we included it in the next version of SDAC/UniDAC. The new version will be released within a month.
If you want to test SDAC/UniDAC for Azure SQL Database (MacOS, iOS, Android) before the official release, write to andreyz*devart*com - and we will send you a night build.

Re: Error connecting to SQL Azure from IOS/Android
I note the next release is now available - but the SQL Azure fix isn't specifically mentioned in the release notes. Is this included? I was going to upgrade Delphi to 10.1 (Berlin) but before doing so am keen to know if this was included before pulling the trigger.
thanks,
