using a dump as input

Hi,

I'm new to the compare tool, and I have 2 questions:

1)
Is it possible to use a dump as input, instead of having to use direct credentials to the source database?
In my case, we need to be able to use any dump on our backup server, to copy data to a test destination database.

2)
If I use direct credentials for a production source database, is there any way to make sure the compare process does not alter production source database performance, disrupting any processing in progress on the DB?
