Review Work Item Code missing in VS2019

Post by gregotte » Mon 29 Apr 2019 18:04

It appears that the the option to Review Work Item Code is missing in Visual Studio 2019. It works great in 2017 and I use it all of the time. Would it be possible to add that feature into 2019?

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Open the team explorer tab in visual studio
  2. Select "Work Items" from the top menu
  3. Select any query and open it
  4. Right Click on a bug or task
  5. In VS 2019 the menu item "Review Work Item Code" is missing

Hi,

Thank you for your question. We removed integration from the queries result because it will be deprecated in the next version of VS https://prnt.sc/njwib7
We plan to integrate command for creating review to the context menu of work item at the new work item board http://prntscr.com/njws0p

I guess I am just confused. Is there no way to create a review from a task or bug anymore, or is that coming in a future release?

In VS 2019 you can not create review from the context menu of a work item editor of query result. We plan to add our integration to the Work Items and My Work panel in the future releases.

Losing this functionality in VS2019 is a major pain and will cause me to have an instance of VS2017 up all the time when doing reviews!

I have in front of me a WI with 8 changesets by 2 different people. Creating a review of that by adding changsets to a review will be a pain!

There should be a way to do this, even if initially it is just on teh Review Board itself - a "Create Review from WI" menu option.

Is there any progress on this in the latest code reviews. The code review website states:
"Two modes of opening Work Item
We supported two modes of opening a work item the same way as in Visual Studio: both in Visual Studio editor and in a web browser by default. For Visual Studio 2017 and lower, the opening mode is automatically detected depending on the studio settings. Visual Studio 2019 supports only the new behavior – opening in a web browser."

How do I do this from the web browser?

That just gets me the ability to view WIs in VS2019
but it doesnt enable the ability to start a review from that WI, which is what we are really needing (or a good workaround in the reviews dashboard)

We have several ways to implement integration with the new board of work items, we will consider them.
