schema can not be opened

Post by brekhof » Sun 16 Feb 2014 09:55

I am new to dbForge (SQL server Pro edition) so this might be the reason I have a problem: I create a db snapshot on a local directory (c:\temp\tim.snap). After that I choose New Schema Comparison. In the first screen I choose the db I just created a script from on the left, on the right I choose the snap file.

The program responds with "The file 'C:\temp\TiM.snap' cannot be opened and will be removed from list."
Double clicking the file outside dbForge will open it just fine (in dbForge).

By the way: If I want to make a backup of the db (schema AND data) I get the impression that this can not be done with dbForge, correct?

Update: the problem seems to be related to running Windows 8.1, using the same on a VMWare machine with Windows 7 works as expected.

Please try to invoke Windows control panel, select 'Region and Language', click the 'Additional Settings' button on the 'Formats' tab of the 'Regional and Settings' dialog and specify ' ' (space) in the 'Digit grouping symbol:' field on the 'Numbers' tab of the 'Customize Format' dialog.

Thanks this works, have to say I totally do not understand why the digit grouping symbol had something to do with this.

We will fix this issue in one of the next builds of the product and will notify you once it's available for downloading.

We would like to let you know that we have released the new version 3.5 of dbForge Studio for SQL Server where the issue you reported is fixed http://www.devart.com/dbforge/sql/studio/download.html

Thank you for your help in improving dbForge Studio for SQL Server.

Hi,
I'm having the same issue and solved it by installing a trial of 3.5 dbForge Studio for SQL.
Is there also a fix available only for "Schema Compare for SQL Server"?
Thanks,
Sander

Unfortunately, we still have no estimated date for releasing the new build of dbForge Schema Compare for SQL Server where this issue is also fixed.
