Opening .edml file causes it to be 'edited' with no changes
Hi,
After upgrading the VS2010 tools to v2.60 we now get wierd behaviour in Visual Studio for existing .edml files.
When we double click on them to open them VS shows a message straight away stating:
"This model has been modified outside of the editor. Do you want to reload it?"
Clicking yes marks the .edml file as edited (along with the sub edml.view and edps files) and a second slightly longer named edml.view is added.
When I use TFS to show the changes that have been made to the files it declares that they are identical to the repository versions.
Checking the changes into TFS is successful but the instant TFS returns control to the IDE I get the "This model has been modified outside of the editor. Do you want to reload it?" message box again and the files are once more marked as edited.
Whatsmore, when I shut the model I cannot then reopen it in VS2010 without restarting the IDE. Double clicking on it simply has no effect, nor does right click + Open.
I have tried unistalling then reinstalling the tools but the same happens. I have tried it on 2 other machines also to no avail.
Can you shed some light on this odd behaviour please and outline a workaround/fix?
Thanks,
Rob.

Please refer to the revision history (6.50.237, the Entity Developer section):
"The bug with detecting whether Devart Entity Model is changed or not is fixed".
Upgrade to the latest (6.50.244) version of dotConnect for Oracle and notify us if the problem is fixed.

Hi,
I have upgraded to the latest version as you suggest but the issue still persists.
I have recorded a video of it here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29763042/Devart%20BUG.avi
It does this on all 3 PC's I have tested it on.
Thanks,
Rob.

Sorry for the delay.
2. There were no problems mentioned in this thread before upgrade, were there?
If "VS2010 tools" is OraDeveloper Tools, please follow these steps:
- uninstall dotConnect for Oracle and OraDeveloper Tools;
- clear the Program Files\Devart, Program Files\Common Files\Devart, and \Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Devart\ folders;
- clear the bin and obj folders of your project;
- delete all Devart.* and policy.*.Devart.* files from the GAC;
- install dotConnect for Oracle v 6.50.250. Does the problem persist? If not, install OraDeveloper Tools. Notify us about the results.
1. Tell us a full name of "VS2010 tools" you are using and its exact (x.xx.xxx) version.r.m.saddler wrote:After upgrading the VS2010 tools to v2.60 we now get wierd behaviour in Visual Studio for existing .edml files.

Hi,
1. The full name is Devart OraDeveloper Tools for Visual Studio 2010 and the version number is 2.60.176
2. No, but I also upgraded dotConnect for Oracle from 630 to 650 at the same time too. Might that have caused this?
3. I uninstalled dotConnect for Oracle and OraDeveloper Tools;
4. Program Files\Devart, Program Files\Common Files\Devart, and \Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Devart\ folders had nothing in them.
5. I cleared the bin and obj folders of my project;
6 .Devart.* and policy.*.Devart.* files did not exist in the GAC;
7. I installed dotConnect for Oracle v 6.50.250.
8. The problems, as shown in the video I linked to in a previous message. are all still present.
Oh, and I am using a 64bit environment too.
Thanks,
Rob.

Re: Opening .edml file causes it to be 'edited' with no changes
The bug with generating the "This model has been modified outside of the editor. Do you want to reload it?" error when Entity Developer is integrated into TFS is fixed. We will post here when the corresponding build of dotConnect for Oracle is available for download.
