installing a trial after a registered version

Getting the "trial has expired" error after uninstalling a 2.50 registered version, and installing a 2.55 trial version. I read the faq and I don't understand what this means:
4. You had non-trial version on your PC and now installed the trial one. If this is the case use non-trial versions to test new functionality.
How to I test the 2.55 version ? Is there a way I can get a registered 2.55 version vs. a trial version without purshasing a new copy ?
