Unable to successfully complete installation of dotConnect.SQLite

Post by billster6809 » Sun 28 Dec 2014 18:14

Whenever I try to install my newly-purchased dotConnect.SQLite, it always locks up at the point where it displays "Installing assemblies into the GlobalAssemblyCache". I have to use task manager to kill the installer. I have waited as long as an hour for this to complete; it never does.

System:
Windows 7 Ultimate
32GB Ram
Visual Studio 2013 Premium
dotConnect.SQL Version: 5.2.313
Entity Developer Version: 5.7.510

In my last, desperate attempt to get this to install, here is what I did:
1. Uninstall Entity Developer. So no Devart tools are left on the system.
2. Go through the registry and delete every Devart reference. There were 700+ of these. As you can guess, this took a while.
3. Removed all devart files from VS\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Devart\
4. Removed all devart from GAC 2.0 (\Windows\assembly\) and GAC 4.0 (\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\)
5. Remove all Devart from Program Files (x86)\Devart\ and Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Devart\
6. Remove all Devart from Documents and Settings\All Users\Devart\EntityDeveloper\ and Documents and Settings\All Users\Devart\dotConnect\
7. Rebooted the computer
8. Attempted to install from an admin command line, with /log option

Same result.

I don't have any other things I can try. I sent a log file yesterday of the install. When I ran it again today, it was slightly smaller. I will send this log to the same email from which I received the feedback on my uninstall.

Can you please figure this out for me? I'd really like to move forward with dotConnect!

Based on email communication, here is an update so any other users who run into this issue might find a solution quicker than I did. I was asked to try the install on other computers, which resulted in:

I do have two other computers, a laptop and a tablet/notebook. On both of them, with nearly the same configuration, the dotConnect install *does* work. That was a good suggestion, by the way. I should have tried that right away :)

Knowing that the install should work, I went back to my main desktop computer and began checking what my main system had compared to what was present on my laptop and notebook. After a *lot* of trials of install/uninstall, stop/start services and tray apps, and reboots, over two days, I finally tracked down the program which halts the dotConnect installation. Once I remove it from the system tray, dotConnect installs and uninstalls just fine.

The conflicting application is: Actual Window Manager
(http://actualtools.com/windowmanager/),
a program that extends toolbars over multiple monitors and other features (I use 3 monitors). It is strange, since of the hundreds of apps on this system, it only conflicts with dotConnect. Even Entity Developer installs fine. But anyway, it is at least tracked down. I will follow up with Actual Tools.
