Migrate from FIBPlus to IBDAC

I am frustrated with the lack of support and late releases for new Delphi versions from Devrace for FIBPlus. I am seriously considering changing over to IBDAC for my Firebird development.

I have migrated from IBX to FIBPlus a couple of years back which was an enormous task. I really need some confirmation before painting myself into a corner again.

Do you have any advice/comments on the migration from FIBplus to IBDAC? I am impressed with Devart's presence on the Internet and the support through your forum.

Hello,

Unfortunately, we don't have any article that describes migration from FIBPlus to IBDAC. We plan to add migration from FIBPlus to IBDAC to our Migration Wizard, but it will not be implemented shortly. For the time being you should replace FIBPlus components with IBDAC components manually. But we are ready to answer all your questions concerning particular problems that you can face during migration process.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have decided to make the change and will order IBDAC once I have installed Delphi RadStudio XE2.

Hi Nico,

I'm totally agree with your statement about FIBPlus/Devrace - it looks like they are going down.

Since a long time I use the Devart components for MS-SQL so I started to proof the IBDAC-components too (at the moment the trial version) and they are working fine (with Delphi XE2). I transferd a small project vom FIBPlus to IBDAC - it was a lot of work and you have to think like a BDE-user because they orientated their components for an easy change vom BDE. That's for us not very helpfull and I would like to wish a wizard from Devart. For a big project I will not change - it will be too much work which no customer will pay for...

We plan to add migration from FIBPlus to IBDAC, but for the time being we have tasks of higher priority. Please note that Migration Wizard serves only to simplify migration process. After migration you may need to make some corrections to your project and test it.
