Downgraded to Express edition

Post by FergusMcGee » Mon 22 Jun 2020 10:11

Hi,

I have a licence for the standard edition.

Back in May I got a notification that a new version was available and installed it.

I was now running a trial enterprise version which I wasn't expecting.

On Thursday last the trial expired but instead of reverting to Std edition it reverted to Express edition.

Do I have to re-install to get my standard features back?

I love the product but this is a very clumsy and annoying way of handling updates.

You need to perform the following:
1. Close dbForge.
2. Start the registry editor Regedit.exe.
3. Navigate to the registry branch:

Code: Select all

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Devart\dbForge Studio for MySQL\Activation\
4. Set UseExpress to 0.
5. Activate as per https://docs.devart.com/studio-for-mysql/getting-started/activation.html

Hi Alexa,

Thanks for replying.

I did the RegEdit but now I get an activation failed error.

It says I've exceeded the maximum number of copies that can be installed.

It is still the ENT edition, my licence is for the STD edition.

If I reinstall the standard edition will I get the max copies message?

In case you are getting the error that you have exceeded the maximum number of application copies, you have to deactivate the license for one of the HardwareIDs. For this, please login to Registered Users' Area , click the highlighted in green 'Activated' link against the product and then, in the 'Active Licenses' window, click the 'DEACTIVATE' button. After that, please try activating dbForge.

The HardwareID of the PC with dbForge installed can be viewed in the system information generated by clicking the 'Send Info' button in the 'System Info Report Contents' window invoked by selecting 'Help -> About...' from the main menu of dbForge and then clicking the 'View System Info' button in the dialog.

Please be aware that the license of dbForge is bound to the specific HardwareID that is generated by dbForge basing on the motherboard, CPU, HDD (including removable USB flash drives) of the PC that dbForge is installed on. Changing of the HardwareID causes the activation to reset to the Trial mode.

Note, you can have activated one license on two separate PCs at a time. If you need to activate it on a third one, you need to, first, deactivate the license for one of the previous PCs.
It is still the ENT edition, my licence is for the STD edition.
We now have one general edition which is Enterprise Trial that the users need to activate with their activation key. Once the have done so, the edition of dbForge will be automatically changed to the edition the user have purchased.
