This system is SO elegant and a breeze to run. I downloaded, then ported two MS-Access files through the CSV loading procedure. The whole process is intuitive and flawless. Did stub my digital toe on a "Read Only" problem, but once I got an index setup during the upload, everything worked fine. Now, it's time to connect to either one of two web hosting services. Both have MySQL loaded. I'm ready to transfer some database tables, but after two support calls and lots of 2-3 hrs of phutzing, I'm still dead in the water. Do I have to use SSH and Putty, or can I use the built in MySQL Database Connection to the Server?
One host is iareia.db.5334104.hostedresource.com at GoDaddy, and they tried to help, but not cigar. And for 1and1.com, they think it's either iareia.db.5334104.hostedresource.com or rdb-uf383.lxa.perfora.net ... they both were very patient, but I'm hoping someone here has the solution.
Can't connect to 1and1 or GoDaddy
Re: Can't connect to 1and1 or GoDaddy
Basing on GoDaddy's service plans description, direct access to mysql database should be available to you. To connect to a MySQL server you have to have:
- Host or IP address of the server on which the MySQL server is running
- Port on which the MySQL server is working (3306 is by default)
- Login and password to access the MySQL server
If you are not able to connect for some reason, you can try to connect using SSH and need to have:
- Host or IP address of the SSH server (could be iareia.db.5334104.hostedresource.com)
- Port: 22
- Login and password to access the SSH server
- On the 'General' tab specify:
- Host or IP address of the MySQL server (usually localhost)
- Port (3306 is by default)
- Login and password to access the MySQL server
- Host or IP address of the server on which the MySQL server is running

Re: Can't connect to 1and1 or GoDaddy
We're making progress! I purchased a single-user, Standard dbforge license. Now I am able to connect with SSH (I got it working first with Putty) but I am getting an error; "The requested name is valide, but no data of the requested type was found".
Here are my settings:
General Tab
Host: iareia.localhost
Port: 3306
User: root
Password: XXXXXXXXX
Database is iareia
Connection name: iareia.localhost
Standalone, this database mounts fine, MySQL server and tables seem to work just fine.
Security Tab
SSH radio button ckecked.
Host: db455410212.db.1and1.com
Port: 22
User dbo455410212 (this is suspect. Should it be the same user name as I use for FTP/SSH?)
Password: XXXXXXXXX

Re: Can't connect to 1and1 or GoDaddy
As it turns out, I resolved the problem by doing some basic troubleshooting.
I called 1and1 to confirm the database host name. I asked them, "Shouldn't I be able to ping that subdomain name?". They said, "Yes", and I replied, but I cannot. I had started to think that if I need a connection to a database which is mounted at a subdomain point which they have assigned, I should be able to ping that domain. I was not able, so I called to ask them why not. After about 30 minutes on the phone, they had no explanation, so I suggested, "Why don't I try this same procedure on one of my GoDaddy accounts, and I'll let you know how that turns out". They agreed this would be a good test.
So I tried to access the MySQL host on Godaddy with SSH and PuTTY; it accepted my login name but would not accept my password. Tried it on two different instances of the MySQL host. So I called Godaddy tech supt. They informed me that you have to check the box to allow remote access when you set up MySQL in the first place, which is sad, because the question is not asked on the main screen -- you have to choose advanced settings -- but fortunately that was an easy fix. I deleted the current MySQL implementation (since there wasn't anything important in that database, and reinstalled, but with the external access option checked. B-I-N-G-O. It worked straight away.
So ... the moral of the story is, there is something seriously wrong with the 1and1.com MySQL hosting for Devart to work with a MySQL database access of which their front line tech support agents are unaware. Maybe they have a "toggle switch" that has to be tweaked, as well, but if so, their tech supt guy didn't know about it.
Now, back to the original project. Sssshhhh...

Re: Can't connect to 1and1 or GoDaddy
Could you please clarify where exactly the error pops up? Does it happen inside dbForge Studio for MySQL, or it is something you see in Putty?
Please note that the "The requested name is valide, but no data of the requested type was found" error means that there are probably problems with the DNS server. Please try to use IP-addresses instead of the DNS name.
