Web Site Administration Tool gives error on create user.

I am using the MySQLMembershipProvider and think that I have it configured correctly.
Through the website i can user the create user wizard and add users to the aspnet_users and aspnet_membership tables. When I try and use the 'Web Site Administation Tool I get the following error.
"An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again."
Any ideas?
