I am trying to establish an ssl connection.
When I point to the proper certs the
connection connects without error but
it is connecting without ssl. When i connect
through the command prompt with mysql
the connection connects with ssl using the
same certs. Is there any other settings I
have to set to use ssl then the three
certs or does the trial version ignore
ssl period.

Did you read "Using Secure Connections" article of MySQLDirect .NET help documentation? Please take a look.

Did you change Protocol:
MySqlConnection.Protocol=MySqlProtocol.Ssl
