Role and Membership functions

I'm struggling to get the Role and Membership functionality of mySQLDirect 3.5 and asp.NET 2.0 working together.
On my test PC it works OK but once deployed I only get as far as the log-in.
The error is:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
I purchased this product to enable this feature so am feeling pretty frustrated at present.
I really would like to see someones web.config who has successfully achieved what I am after.
