Current version of dbExpress driver for MySQL supports MySQL 5.5.

http://www.devart.com/dbx/mysql/
is as:
"Compatibility
dbExpress driver for MySQL supports MySQL server 5.1, 5.0, 4.1, 4.0, and 3.23."
