Standard v Direct Connection

Although it is clear that the standard connection uses the vendorlib libmysql.dll and the direct connection does not, I am not sure why you would use one or the other, given a choice. From a programming point of view, is there a difference?

Usually there is no significant difference between these both modes. But on using SSL or another uncommon versions of the server using libmysql.dll is better.
