Visual Studio 2008

Post by renierp » Wed 11 Mar 2009 12:23

We have downloaded a trial version of the UniDirect components, as we need to have multiple database support, but our main focus is on PostgreSQL. We do have one concern, the package is still written to support only up to visual studio 2005, and all the examples are in .Net2, VS2005. When we spend this kind of money on a component, we need to be sure that there will be support for future versions of Visual Studio. The current version cannot integrate with the Server Explorer in VS2008. Will there be a release soon (and when) and will we be able to upgrade to it? Will future versions of Visual Studio be supported?

1. We are planning implement UniDirect .NET support for Visual Studio 2008. But we cannot provide any timeframe now.

2. You can work with the Spatial types with UniDirect .NET but it can be processed as a string value only. There are no special objects that allow to perform specific operations with Spatial types in UniDirect .NET.

Thanks Shalex. If we do purchase the software, will we be able to upgrade for free when the new version comes out? How does upgrades work?

I also see the following.
Devart implements a proactive update policy, supporting new database versions, operating system updates, and development environment technologies as they are released. Devart releases new versions frequently, so users always have access to the newest available features and updates.
I am pretty sure that visual studio 2008 has been released at least 18months ago, Beta versions even earlier.

UniDirect .NET license is perpetual and royalty free. But supscription is valid during 1 year only after the purchase. This means that you can download the new versions of UniDirect .NET for free during a year. If this period ends, you need to renew your supscription to get access to Registered Users' Area again to download the latest versions.

I will post here when the timeframe of UniDirect .NET support for VS 2008 is be estimated.

Hi Shalex. Has any timeframe been estimated on this? Visual Studio 2010 is about to launch and there is still no design time support in VS 2008.
You also mention that i can download newer versions of UniDirect.Net for free during my 1 year subscription. Will there ever be any updates?
We are starting to regret spending a huge amount of money on a product, and Devart refuses to implement neccesary features.

Currently we are working on the latest dotConnects versions support by UniDirect .NET and Visual Studio 2008 integration. We plan to release a new version of UniDirect .NET this week on Friday. I will post here when it is available for download.

Perfect.

I am assuming the Visual Studio 2008 integration will also be completed then?

Hi Shalex.
Almost a week later now and still no update. Any news on this? It is crucial for us to have the integration and it is putting a halt on development currently.

Renier

Has this been implemented yet?

I could seriously use this, but I don't see that it is integrated with VS2008 yet.
