Can't do a Data Compare using backup files

Post by nilknarf78 » Thu 12 Mar 2015 19:30

I'm trying to use Data Compare to compare backup files. However, when I select the backup files, they have a red circle with and 'x' and I can't set any options. When I try to select options or mapping in the New Comparison window, I just get a message saying to select a database to compare.

Any thoughts on this?

I'm running on SQL Server 2014 and there's nothing special about how I created the backups. And, according to the "Check for updates" function, I have the latest version of Data Compare.

Thanks in advance!

Apologies for the delay in responding. I completely forgot about this until today when I went to try and do this again.

I've determined the issue is with compression. I can open a backup that wasn't created with compression. However, if I create a backup with compression turned on, Data Compare can not open it.

Could you please let us know what product you were making the backup with and specify its version.

Please also send us a test backup file for investigation to supportATdevartDOTcom and alexaATdevartDOTcom

The backup is being created with SQL Server 2014.

I'll see what I can do about sending you a sample file.

Thanks!

I am experiencing the same problem. I am using dbForge Pro 5.4.275 and SLQ Server Express 2017.

Any suggestions?

Just rolled back to SQL Server 2014 and it works...maybe just not compatible with 2017...

The Issue still exists in the current version dbforge Studio for SQL-Server Enterprise 6.0.470 when using a SQL-Server 2017 and a backup from this server version.
the topic is more than 3 years old. will there be a fix in a new version soon? Roleback to an older server is no option for me.

Currently, dbForge supports backups of the SQL servers lower than SQL Server 2014.

Though, we are planning to support backups of the higher versions in one of the next product versions.
