Error installing

Post by berets » Fri 30 Jan 2009 09:08

Hi, I'm trying to use your ADO.NET Data Provider, but I cannot install it on my dev machine.

The setup start and works well until "Finishing installation", then I'm getting an "An error occurred while installin main application assembly" error, then clicking OK the installation finish, but when I try to create e model from an existing database, I can connect to DB, retrieve tables, but when it try to create the .edmx file, Visual Studio 2008 SP1 hang up and I need to end the process...

Any idea ? My dev machine is a Windows Vista Business x64 SP1

Thanks
and regards
Luca

Thank you for the bug report, this installation problem was found already. I will let you know as soon as it is fixed.
But it is a problem with Entity Developer registration, and is not associated with Visual Studio's freezing while edmx generation,
that's why I need some more information.
Does VS freeze while generating any model, even containing just one table?

Now: with 1 table the VS doesn't freeze, then I try to add 10 tables, and VS freeze...

Mmmmh I need a better workaround because I've hundreds ot tables ;-)

So nonetheless the error installing, the trial is fully usefull ? Or there is something not working ?!

Thanks
Luca

Update : the VS wasn't freezed, I left it run (apprently hanged!) and after 15 minutes, it update the model adding 10 tables!

15 minutes for 10 tables, so I can imagine to need about 165-170 minutes for all my schema :-(

Any idea ? My machine is a very good workstation, x64, 4 Gb RAM, Intel Core 2 DUO T9600 @ 2,80 GHz, so I can exclude a bottleneck of hardware type
