how do I use TNSNAMES.ORA

Post by hepek » Fri 30 Mar 2012 20:38

I downloaded dbForge professional for evaluation. I tried to create a new connection in dbForge studio, but it looks to me dbForge is not setup to use TNSNAMES.ORA. It seems I have to setup connection SID and port manually.

The "Direct Mode" check-box is checked and disabled in New Connection dialog.

I have oracle client 11g 32 bit installed and I am already using this client by dotConnect in client mode.

Am I missing something?

thank you

You might have installed dbForge Studio for Oracle on a 64-bit operating system with a 32-bit Oracle client.

Since version 3.1 dbForge Studio for Oracle includes full support for 64-bit operating systems. So, a 64-bit Oracle client has to be used on 64-bit operating systems. Whereas you still can use a 32-bit client on 64-bit operating systems when working with dotConnect.

You can also use Direct mode that doesn't require an Oracle client to be installed. Please refer to the 'Using Direct Mode' topic in the product's help documentation for details.
