5.7 Installation Killed VS 2010
I just installed the latest version and am using VS 2010. After a full installation, VS was running very slowly - in fact it was completely unusable. The menu was disabled and files wouldn't open at all. After uninstalling VS worked just fine again. Anybody else have this problem? This is a pretty big deal for us.
Locking up Visual Studio when running for the first time after dotConnect for Oracle was installed can be caused by several reasons:
1. Merging with Visual Studio packages. It occurs once during installation of our product.
2. Merging with VS Documentation. By default it goes once when you run Visual Studio after installation of dotConnect for Oracle. But you can run this process during installation of dotConnect for Oracle by checking corresponding options. Installation time goes up, but the first run is quick as usual.
3. Our service window that offers you to download OraDeveloper Tools. Just check "Don't show this dialog again".
If the problem persists, please tell us:
1) the exact version of your dotConnect for Oracle. You can find it via the Tools > Oracle > About menu of Visual Studio;
2) the exact version of your Visual Studio. You can find it via the Help > About menu of Visual Studio;
3) the version and edition of your operating system.

I have visual studio 2010, 5.7 of oracle connect.
When i start visual studio up the menus do not respond to any mouse clicks. I have to use Alt+F etc to open a project. Once I have used Alt+F the menus work fine.
Whilst this is not a showstopper it is a minor annoyance.
I do not have any oracle drivers or oracle dbs locally, I use oracle devart tools and connect for one project - where the oracle dbs are on someones elses network (so i connect to their vpn whilst working on those projects to get access to oracle db)- so your oracle drivers are great as it means i have no oracle java mess on my pc...
If i uninstall devart oracle from my machine visual studio starts up and works fine. I reinstalled, and the merge docs option was disabled the second time around.
I have Win7 x64, standard UAC settings, fully updated via windows updates - if there is any more info you need please let me know. I merge docs etc all in the initial devart install - and have rebooted and start visual studio many times since both installs.

Rdlauer, dotConnect for Oracle should work properly with any combination of Visual Studios 2005, 2008, and 2010, though the installation time should be greater if there are several Visual Studios on your machine. dotConnect for Oracle should not depend on system's capacity either.
Does the problem persist after the first run of Visual Studio? If yes, could you please specify the exact versions and editions of dotConnect for Oracle and Visual Studios you are using? Also, did you install some third-party components for Visual Studio?

- the minor build number and edition of dotConnect for Oracle you are using;
- the edition of Visual Studio 2010;
- whether you have some older Visual Studios installed on the machine; if yes, what are their versions and editions;
- whether you installed some third-party components for Visual Studio.
This would help us greatly. Unfortunately, we cannot reproduce the problems at the moment.

The only third-party component I have installed is EntitySpaces 2010.

I just opened up visual studio 2008, and it hung for a few seconds and asked me if i wished to download the dev art oracle tools. i ticed do not ask again and cancel.
I got excited and ran visual studio 2010, and the menus are still the same. I can click on them and they highlight but will not drop down. If i press the ALT key just once and release then all is back to normal.
Sounds extremely weird, the alt key doesn't really do anything does it...

I just opened up visual studio 2008, and it hung for a few seconds and asked me if i wished to download the dev art oracle tools. i ticed do not ask again and cancel.
I got excited and ran visual studio 2010, and the menus are still the same. I can click on them and they highlight but will not drop down. If i press the ALT key just once and release then all is back to normal.
Sounds extremely weird, the alt key doesn't really do anything does it...
